A few weeks back I was scrolling through Hornpub Ska City swiping through memes and commentators about what IS and what ISN'T ska. That sparked the creation of this ska/punk cover of John Cage's 4:33.
John Cage was an American composer, music theorist, artist and philosopher (if you wikipedia him anyways). He experimented with lots of different styles of music, this piece being his most famous due to philosophical nature of what constitutes music.
Back to why I decided to make this "ska/punk" rendition, 4 reasons actually.
1. We are currently working on mixing/mastering our next original song written by Kris & Kat titled "Pigs Fly" about police brutality.
2. No one has done a punk/ska cover of any of John Cage's music, figured this would be a first.
3. 4:33 is a 3 movement piece and each movement is determined by opening and closing the lid of a piano (the work may be performed by any instrumentalist or combination of instrumentalists and last any length of time) I picked 3 arbitrary starting points for each movement.
4. We're in a pandemic and obviously I have WAY too much time on my hands!
